Now leaving a wet rainy Blighty

At the unearthly hour of 3:30am we were woken by the alarm clock announcing that it was time to haul ourselves to the airport. Our journey wasn’t too bad due to the roads being pretty clear.Once at the airport we discovered that they’re part way through some pretty extensive redevelopment works. Having left our bags at the check-in desk, we moved through security with considerable ease. The queue for security wasn’t too long which was entirely due to the fact that it flowed really fast. I can fully understand why you might wish to pay for priority security check-in to avoid long queues in an environment devoid of seats, however at this time of the morning with our entire queue time lasting no more than 5 minutes it’d have been pointless.
On “the other side” after security the building works are more extensive. This means that a large number of the retail units are boarded up, which is not very handy when you were hoping for a spot of breakfast before boarding the aircraft.
Our flight is due to take off at 06:15 and if we’re not delayed should find us arriving at the hotel in time for lunch (which Matty was very pleased about).

Edit : We’re two hours ahead. The airport is pretty small (like Luton). We had a bus ride off the runway to the terminal building, rather than the long walk ftom the gate along a moving walkway. Just collecting luggage and then to find our coach connection to the hotel.
