Goodbye Kos

Our day began in a similar way to yesterday. Morning coffee followed by breakfast, and then the ladies reading their books and me playing the piano. Most mornings we’ve eaten breakfast at this table, as these chairs are way more comfortable than the metal ones.

I love playing the small grand piano in the 1930s bar. At 9 am when it opens, it’s pretty deserted, so I knew my playing wasn’t going to disturb other guests who wanted to relax in the tranquil atmosphere. I’d played that piano a few mornings and this morning I was greeted by a smiling cleaner who I saw yesterday and who hung around again this morning listening to me. Maybe I broke up the boredom of her endless sweeping and mopping all those stone floors. I guess we’ll never know.

Once we packed our cases and checked out, the concierge stored our cases in the left luggage room and we walked down to the pool bar where Liz began reading her Kindle and I played my travel piano. I returned it to the left luggage room and went to find a lounger on the beach to absorb a few rays and soak in the tranquil scenery and the rhythmic splashing of the tide on the beach. It was a very peaceful and relaxing scene

Everyday sometime between between 11:30am and 12:30pm a waiter appeared on the pool or beach area brandishing a tray of chicken gyros or chicken burgers. Nice touch eh?

About an hour later, Char had finished her book and joined me on the beach, where we sipped a strawberry daiquiri and a light beer, and soaked in the wonderful view.

After a light lunch taken on the restaurant terrace, we returned to the shade of the pool bar as Liz was now gripped by the exciting narrative of her book. Whereas I prefer to listen to my books on Audible sitting on a lounger on the beach.

Here’s a pic of the beach bar where we’ve enjoyed a few drinks and the comfortable chairs.

And this is the pool bar which churns out our cocktails and other drinks in an endless stream from 10 am each day.

Sitting under the shade of the pool bar there are ashtrays on every table, and when one of the tables near you lights their cigarettes, it reminds you quite pointedly how much change we’ve seen in our restaurants and pubs in the UK, yes, yes, ice cream and actually how lucky we are that we don’t have to put up with cigarette smoke near us if we choose not to.

While sitting in the pool bar, I was stunned to discover that John Hammond had escaped Isla Nublar and is here! Let’s hope he hasn’t smuggled any dinosaur eggs onto Kos….

It’s been a great holiday. We’ve really enjoyed sitting on the beach and relaxing in one of the many bars that they’ve got. Or maybe sitting on the beanbags.

Anyway, it’s time to end this block as we have to go to the airport. See you when we get home, adio.
