Our flight out of Luton was due to depart at 08:30hrs. Needing to get to the airport early enough to get through security and arrive at the departure gate in time, we left at 4:45am, picking Char up en route.
Despite some roads being busy and the M1 being packed, we arrived at the airport checked in our hold luggage and buzzed through security without any substantial queueing. By 6:15am we were through security and queueing to order Char her first coffee of the morning, and the rest of us a tea. Our server got thoroughly confused and made two white teas, and one black coffee despite us repeating the order twice, so they could play it back.
The plane was rammed with Brits keen to evade the constant rain we’ve been having and to embrace some sun. Unfortunately, nobody told the weather. Upon our arrival in Tenerife we noted a low grey cloud hanging over the island like a damp rag. Typical – (sigh). True to form, the sun eventually burnt through the cloud. But by now the afternoon was marching onwards at a pace and it was almost 4:30pm.
Even though it’s substantially further south than the UK, at this time of year you don’t generally get much above 20/24 C. The sun was really pleasant and a welcome upturn in the weather, but wasn’t overly warm.
Due to the EU having introduced biometric data collection for non-EU citizens, we had to queue for data collection processing when we landed in Tenerife. The shuttle bus that was transporting us to the hotel, waited for a long time for all the other passengers from different flights to make their way to baggage claim and then board our bus. And yes, dear Reader you guessed right. This delay meant that by 3:10pm the dining room was closed when we eventually arrived at the hotel and checked in. So we were forced to sample the snack bar, which sported a pretty good selection. And for my final moan I’ll briefly mention that the food wasn’t very warm. But after a long journey we were just grateful to get our paws on some lunch.

The rest of the day was spent around the hotel, or exploring the streets immediately around the hotel.
At 6:30pm it was finally time for our evening meal. The restaurant had a good selection. Char spotted some Blue Fin Shark! Not being put off by the fact she hadn’t picked it up, I grabbed some. When I returned to the table I carved off two small pieces and presented one to each sister. They thought it was an unusual texture – soft and springy. But they both ate it.
For many folks, the highlight of the evening was the table of candy the hotel had in an alcove outside the restaurant. If you’re thinking the old folks weren’t interested in- you’d be wrong.

After our food, we headed back outside for a stroll around the town. Around the first corner we spotted Daniel’s bar – and we all thought he was in the paint business!

Goodnight.
