Having moved our flight time forward to 2pm, we calculated we needed to leave for the airport on the 11am bus. With this in mind, we ate breakfast and packed our little cases. Despite them being small cases that fitted in the overhead lockers, it felt like it took a while to pack everything and sweep the room. I guess the combination of our late nights and interrupted sleep the night before was causing us to feel tired.

Once out of the room, we checked out and sat in the hotel lobby, which is an open space that has been decorated to give it a light, modern feel.

Not having time to go anywhere meaningful, we spent the last hour resting in the lobby before boarding the shuttle bus back to the airport for the last time.
Once we’d moved through the airport security, we headed into the lounge area. (To avoid confusion, I’m not referring to a private lounge area.) I kept my eye open, hoping there might be a piano somewhere. A quick Google search using the hotel’s Wi-Fi had revealed there was a piano in the terminal 2 lounge. But we were flying out of terminal 3, so I wasn’t sure I’d be in the correct place. Eventually, I spotted the Grand Piano nestled in a seating area away from the main walkway. As nobody was playing the piano, I seized my opportunity and began to play The Entertainer. A few lines into the tune, I began to feel very nervous and promptly forgot everything I’d learnt. Realising what had happened, I walked away to buy a bottle of water and take a breath. Although I was still a little nervous when I returned, I was able to play most of The Entertainer and a couple of other tunes I’d learnt from end to end.

We had a great time in Amsterdam, despite it being devilishly cold at times. And the flower parade had been really spectacular. Would we go back to the city?
Yes, but there are a few other things we’d like to see first.
