Exploring Magaluf and playing mini golf

Leaving everyone to enjoy their first morning beverage, I headed downstairs to play the piano. Unfortunately, the piano-fixing elves had been busy elsewhere, so the piano was still a bit broken. But I adapted my playing a little and worked around it. (No, I didn’t miss any notes. Instead, I switched to a higher octave for sections of the tune.)

After everyone had eaten breakfast we left Tim to relax with his copy of Practical Classics and headed to Magaluf for a paddle. Magaluf is the Aylesbury to Palma Nova’s Wendover, although it’s considerably closer than that. There are way more shops and a good selection that aren’t filled with the typical mix of beach wear, buckets and glades or other souvenirs. Magaluf Beach is a lot longer than our beach, largely because Palma Nova Beach is split into three parts and Magaluf Beach is not. The sand was way less gritty than Palma Nova beach, making it easier to walk on and less abrasive on your feet. As we approached the end of the beach, we realised we were on the other side of the giant rocky headland separating Magaluf from Palma Nova.

The key to this discovery was recognising the building crowded onto the rocks in front of us. The only problem was that rock stood in our path back to the hotel, and our only path was up and over. In the sun, the hill felt very steep. We soon found our path ran very close to the lookout tower on the cliff’s edge. Unfortunately, it was surrounded by a high fence which was decorated with a large selection of “keep out” signs informing the reader that they needed to cease and desist their ambition to circumvent the fence and explore the ruined lookout tower with its partially collapsed crenelations.  And who knew there was a Tesko in Magaluf?

After lunch, we sat in the pool bar for a while and then heralded down to the Fantasia Golf to play a round. Although it was very warm in the sun, we had a lot of fun avoiding the water and other hazards on the course. Liz won, Tim Char and your scribe were runners-up.

The heat of the afternoon sun persuaded us to stroll along the seafront to an ice cream parlour where we purchased our frozen treats. Tim had a mango ice cream, Liz had liquorice, Char had a scoop of banana ice cream and your scribe had passion fruit and banana in a cup. The ice creams didn’t last long and were gone part way up the hill back to the hotel. Iced drinks sitting in the shade of the pool bar came to our rescue and we were soon relaxing with a glass of something cold.

The rest of the day followed a similar pattern to previous days, back to the room to change, before heading to the lounge bar for pre-dinner drinks and our evening meal. Afterwards, we sat and discussed what we might like to do the following day, before returning to our room for a coffee and bed.

Good night!
